January 1, 1923 was the first time that the Rose Bowl Game was held at the Rose Bowl Stadium. The game featured Penn State University and the University of Southern California, with the score ending at PSU 3 to USC 14. The proceedings shown here must be pre-game, because the Penn State team was late arriving at the stadium, and the game was finished in the dark. Cf. USC Football history, 2006 Football media guide, p. 102 (available online as of 11/11/2011).
